Ascona III Meeting, July 12-17, 2020

Advances in physiological measurement of gastrointestinal function, Centro Stefano Franscini, Ascona, Switzerland

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The International Working Group for Disorders of GI Motility and Function is pleased to invite you to attend the Ascona III Meeting, July 12-17, 2020. The program can be downloaded here. This meeting is endorsed by all five international Neurogastroenterology and Motility Societies and supported by ESCP and ESPGHAN.

Recent years have seen dramatic developments in the technology available for clinical investigation of swallowing, gastro-esophageal reflux, digestive and continence function.

In 2011 the HRM Working Group gathered in Ascona to introduce the Chicago Classification of Oesophageal Motility Disorders for High-Resolution Manometry. In 2015 the group met again to review advances in oesophageal measurement, diagnosis of Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease and management of Anorectal Disorders.

In 2020 a world class faculty will return to Switzerland to discuss the full range of investigations and diagnoses. Highlights will include:

  • Introduction of the First Consensus Classification for Disorders of Pharyngeal Function. Swallow Gateway hands on training is offered at the meeting.
  • Roll out of the Chicago Classification for Oesophageal Motility Disorders version 4.0 plus review of endo-FLIP and other advances
  • Initial experience with the Lyon Classification of Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease
  • State-of-the-art lectures focused on assessment of gastric emptying, intestinal motility and digestive function, with a particular focus on breath tests.
  • Introduction of the London Classification for Disorders of Anorectal Function

Throughout the focus will be on clinical practice, highlighting how the information provided by advanced measurement equipment can provide an explanation for patient symptoms, establish definitive diagnosis and guide effective management.

Registration: To register at the meeting follow the instructions in the document “Ascona III Registration”! The cost is 100CHF / day or 500CHF for the week (approx. 1 CHF = 1 USD). The appropriate sum needs to be entered by delegates into the appropriate field (external website). You are encouraged to attend the entire conference from Sunday 12th (arrival) to Friday 17th. From Monday-Tuesday 13-14 July the focus of the meeting will be on the upper gastrointestinal tract. Wednesday the 15th will be of interest to all and concludes with the conference dinner. Thursday-Friday 16-17 July will focus on the colon and anorectum. In parallel there will be expert group meetings and commercial symposia to consider future developments in this rapidly developing field.

Accommodation: Rooms in a range of price categories are being reserved and the accommodation website will be opened by the CSF conference center in January 2020. Questions can be directed to Info.Ascona3@idigest.ch. If you are happy, willing and able to share a room with another named (or unnamed) delegate or partner then please let the organizing committee know. It will save money and help in the allocation of rooms!

The success of the scientific program of Ascona III depends on the active involvement of the delegates, experts and opinion leaders from around the World. The working group leads look forward to welcoming you to Switzerland next year.
